Roberta O'Brien Dunn

I went to BCC after STA and got into sailing. I crewed on various boats and raced. In 1977 I moved to Oklahoma.
I got a job as a flight attendant for Branniff in 1978 and moved to Dallas. I met Harold, married him in 1980 and moved to West Texas where his family owns an oil well service company. Now Harold manages it.
Meanwhile, we live in the same starter house we bought in 1983 (once you plant a tree...) All our children flew the nest.
I belong to a Living History Unit. I dress in period clothing and explain the history of our town to bus-loads of tourists. Its really fun. I may be an Extra in the remake of True Grit. We'll see.
Anyway, my health has become my part time job. Biking, walking, the gym, finding whole foods. Hard to do out here where everything is canned, boxed or fried.
I live on two and a half acres in an eclectic neighborhood. I have chickens, 2 dogs and a cat. Harold and I are honeymooning again now that our little house is to ourselves. Lots of nights looking at the stars.

I remember the nicknames for our football players, after the Dolphins (Mercury Morris is one)
I didn't make any of the games because I usually worked at Publix on Friday nights. My brothers and sisters and I got jobs as soon as we turned 16. Our Dad lost his job in the recession. (Carter). I have no idea how we were able to stay in an expensive Catholic school. I know one thing: the priests and nuns were good to us. One time my brother (at OLQM) took an "F" because he didn't bring a chicken leg to school for a science project. He thought Mom needed it more.
I remember Giselle was one of the best dressed girls in school. She had the cutest accessories that made her uniform actually look good.
Nancy Poyer was a prettier (and smarter) version of me. Even my brothers agreed!
Joe Switalski was the coolest guy i ever met. He'd beep his horn when he drove by our house, which made my day. They say he was cool, but if you said ANYTHING about his mother...watch out!
We did have a smart class. I had to step it up if I wanted to have friends at STA. By my junior year I was getting second honors. A huge achievement for me.
I have to admit, moving so much when I was young, made me more attached to my brothers and sisters than to my community. So, it was my loss whenever I chose home over school. I didn't go to prom or homecoming or football games... but I did climb the fence at the tennis court on weekends and played! Martha Lord and Sue Houle were two of my best friends. Even today I try to be as thoughtful as Sue.
